Weekend Trainings as Announced
317 Maple Street, Greenview
At the Greenview Station, the Department offers six Basic Firefighter courses, each taught through the auspices of the College of the Siskiyous. In addition, we regularly schedule advanced training, either at the stations or at the College campus in Weed. For example, volunteers can take classes in CPR, Hazardous Materials training, and Emergency Rescue Services. In the near future, local training will occur at the Al Buchter Training Center in Green-view, now in the final stages of planning. For education and training, Scott Valley Fire pays all expenses, including materials.
Volunteers will also receive free Drivers’ Training and, of course, Workers’ Compensation. In addition, all trainees earn a stipend for responding to dispatched incidents and for attending exercises and drills. Seasonally, volunteers may qualify to fight fires in other parts of California, drawing strike team fire pay from the United States Forest Service or Cal Fire.
